Biography
The Black Family
The Black family is a Pureblood and dark family (related
to the Malfoys and Weasleys in a way). Sirius' father and
mother, Mr and Mrs Black were black wizards (along with
the rest of the family). Sirius' little brother, Regulus
Black, were what they said 'a better son'. His parents died
(mother died in 1985), Regulus died in 1980, leaving Sirius
the only heir of the Black family.
At
Hogwarts
When Sirius aka Padfoot went to Hogwarts, he was sorted
into Gryffindor. There he became best friends with James
Potter aka Prongs, Remus Lupin aka Moony and Peter Pettigrew
aka Wormtail. Together they were the Marauders. Sirius was
quite brilliant at school and he was a looker.
During his fifth year at Hogwarts he became an animagus
(with James and Peter), in order to help Remus (whom they
found out to be a werewolf). James, as a stag, Peter, as
a rat, and he himself as a black dog. They, together, created
the Marauders Map.
When Sirius was sixteen he ran away from home and stayed
with James and his parents. They took him in as a second
son. During his sixth year at Hogwarts he tried to kill
Severus Snape aka Snivellus, by using Remus (when he was
in his werewolf state).
After
Hogwarts
When James Potter and Lily Evans married he was their Best
Man and in 1980 he became godfather to James and Lily's
son, Harry Potter. He was then made as Harry’s godfather.
He was assigned
as James’ and Lily’s secret keeper, in which
he transferred the responsibility to Peter Pettigrew.
He joined
The Order of the Phoenix to fight against Lord Voldemort.
On Halloween 1981 Sirius life turned up side down, James
and Lily were killed. Sirius got the blame and was locked
up in Azkaban (the wizard prison) for 12 years, after he
was falsely accused of killing a wizard (Peter) and twelve
muggles.
None knew
of his innocence, and the real criminal; Peter Pettigrew,
who betrayed his friends, using his ‘secret keeper’
advantage of informing Voldermort of their whereabouts.
He faked his death by cutting his finger and stayed with
the Weasleys as Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers.
Sirius, escaped
from Azkaban after rotting there for 12 years. Although
living undercover, Sirius joined the re-formed Order of
the Phoenix in 1995, allowing them to use his old family
house in Grimmauld Place as their headquarters. In this
he was even working alongside Snape (who had initially joined
the Death Eaters but then defected to the Order around 1980),
but although the two were fighting on the same side, they
never lost their animosity. During the final battle in the
Department of Mysteries, Sirius was struck by a Stupefy
spell from Bellatrix Lestrange (his cousin), and subsequently
fell through a veil into the world of the dead.
The spell
was not fatal but it is unclear whether falling into the
afterlife actually kills you or not. Sirius may well return
in some form, but whether dead or alive remains to be seen.
After his
tragic death, his last will and testament surfaced and revealed
that he had left everything to Harry: Grimmauld Place, everything
in it, and of course, the insane and detestable house-elf,
Kreacher. There was some uneasiness at first, as Bellatrix
should have legally been the rightful heir to the family
estate and property. The Order of the Phoenix has temporarily
moved headquarters to an undisclosed location until the
matter is sorted out, fearing that she may show up to stake
her claim at any time. As for Kreacher, Dumbledore performed
a test to see where his loyalties lie; he told Harry to
give Kreacher an order to see if he obeyed it, which he
did. While this small triumph bodes well for the Order,
no one can be sure if there are any enchantments or magical
loopholes that will thwart Harry's claim as heir. Where
Grimmauld Place is concerned, it would do well to proceed
with caution. |
