Before either of them
could say another word, something ginger streaked past Harry;
Crookshanks leapt onto Black's chest, and settled himself
there, right over Black's heart. Black blinked and looked
down at the cat.
"Get off," he murmured, trying to push Crookshanks
off him.
But
Crookshanks sank his claws into Black's robes and wouldn't
shift. He turned his ugly, squashed face to Harry and looked
up at him with those great yellow eyes. To his right, Hermione
gave a dry sob.
pg. 251, ch. 17
Comment: I know this has nothing much to do with our
‘topic’, but I have an admiration for Crookshanks,
considering he’s Hermione’s. Hence, I also love
his relationship with Sirius. And here, Hermione is shown
ashamed of her pet cat.
"This cat isn't mad," said Black hoarsely. He reached
out a bony hand and stroked Crookshanks' fluffy head. "He's
the most intelligent of his kind I've ever met. He recognised
Peter for what he was straight away. And when he met me, he
knew I was no dog. It was a while before he trusted me. Finally,
I managed to communicate to him what I was after, and he's
been helping me...
"What do you mean?" breathed Hermione.
"He tried to
bring Peter to me, but couldn't... so he stole the passwords
into Gryffindor Tower for me... As I understand it, he took
them from a boy's bedside table..."
pg. 267, ch. 19
Comment: Yeah… kitty cat, again. And the way Rowling
put it; ‘breathed Hermione’, it shows that she’s
rather impressed, flattered… and somehow nervous at
Sirius’ compliments on her intelligent pet.
British version
“Er - Mr Black - Sirius?” said Hermione timidly.
Black jumped at being addressed like this and stared at Hermione
as though being spoken to politely was something he’d
long forgotten.
American version
"Er - Mr. Black - Sirius?" said Hermione.
Black jumped at being
addressed like this and stared at Hermione as though he
had never seen anything quite like her.
pg. 272, ch. 19
Comment: This is by far the only real ‘ship moment’
for us. And I think many of you will agree with that. I
like the way Rowling made Sirius ‘stare’ at
her. And it somehow makes us ‘timeturner fans’
think about what ‘might have happened’. But
I rather like the American version for this. *winks*
“He hates Sirius,” Hermione said desperately.
“All because of some stupid trick Sirius played on him-“
pg. 287, ch. 21
Comment: Hermione defending Sirius that Snape blaming him
is nothing more, but mere old school grudges.
Black looked up. Harry saw his jaw drop. He leapt
from him chair, hurried to the window and tired to open it,
but it was locked.
”Stand back!” Hermione called to him, and she
took out her wand, still gripping the back of Harry’s
robes with her left hand.
”Alohomora!”
The window sprang
open.
”How –
how -?” said Black weakly, staring at the
Hippogriff.
pg. 302, ch. 21
Comment: Hermione ‘saves the day’ moment, ordering
him to stand back to free his innocent self.
In seconds, he had
managed to fling one leg over Buckbeak’s back, and
pull himself onto the Hippogriff behind Hermione.
pg. 303, ch. 21
Comment: Hehe! Just like in the movie, Sirius sat behind
Hermione. Aww…
”How can I ever thank –“
”GO!” Harry and Hermione shouted together.
pg. 303, ch. 21
Comment: The farewell. This is the funniest line in my opinion.
